Cleaning Your Window Treatments
Since many of us have been spending a lot more time at home, we’ve started focusing on cleaning and organizing our spaces. With the extra time indoors, you might be more aware of areas that have been neglected, clutter that has piled up, or improvements that you’d like to make. As you’ve checked off each new task on your list, you’ve probably done a decent amount of deep cleaning. For example, if you finally went through your clothes and organized your closet, you probably took that opportunity to do some sweeping and dusting in there. An often neglected area when it comes to our regular cleaning is around the windows, both the glass itself and the window treatments. By keeping your window treatments clean, you can help combat allergies and enjoy a tidy window area. Simply follow these tips from Design 5 LTD to learn more about cleaning your window treatments.
How you go about cleaning your window treatments will depend a lot on which style you have. One thing to keep in mind is that it’s always nice to pair your clean window coverings with clean glass. If it’s been a while since you took some window cleaning spray to your windows, this is the perfect opportunity, especially if you have drapes that you’ll be taking down to clean. While it might be a dusty chore, you’ll really enjoy the glistening clear glass and the bright light it lets in.
First, cleaning your window treatments might seem a little tricky if you have blinds or shutters. With so many nooks and crannies, it can be difficult to clear off any dust that might gather. If you’re a perfectionist or if you just bought a fixer upper, you can opt to take down the blinds to deep clean them. Depending on the material, you can try a few techniques such as soaking them in water and using dish soap or baking soda. However, deep cleaning isn’t usually necessary, and you shouldn’t soak wood blinds in water. In most cases, you simply want to dust the blinds. You can close your blinds completely and gently wipe them down with a microfiber cloth. You can also get a special tool that’s made to dust between the slats.
If you have fabric coverings like curtains or drapes, cleaning your window treatments might be as simple as taking them down and shaking them out. If you’re looking for a deeper clean, make sure you check instructions for your specific material. While some curtains are made to be machine washable, you may need to spot treat or dry clean your fabric window coverings.
